A bit about Francesca

Fran first set foot in a ballet studio aged 3. Insistent that this was what she wanted to do – she never looked back! The movement bug had taken hold…

Years later, Pilates started to become a part of Fran’s life at the University of Cape Town: School of Dance where she completed a Degree in Dance, focussing on how Pilates could assist in injury prevention for ballet dancers. A professional dance career followed, allowing for an exciting phase of international touring, interspersed with teaching both Ballet and Spanish dance and entering pupils for exams. On settling in London she completed a two year Pilates course with the Pilates Foundation UK. Fran then gained invaluable experience in a number of different studios before setting up her own matclasses in Putney in 2004. In 2008 a dream came true and she opened Body Principles which found a happy home in the Sheen Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic in East Sheen.

Fran believes that continued professional development is key; as such she attends regular weekly classes for her own improvement and wellbeing and is currently completing further qualifications in the field of movement and fascia.

Fran enjoys working with anyone who would like to discover more about their own movement potential – from those requiring specific rehabilitation led work through to those wanting to fine tune and extend their already good practice. She brings patience, care and attention to detail to all of her classes and many of her referrals come directly from health professionals. She is also available for Peer Group teaching.

Fran and her husband live in South West London where they raise their two very energetic young boys.

Pilates Teacher

Fully qualified to teach Pilates since

2012

Qualifications

  • CYQ Level 3, certified by The Register for Exercise Professionals, UK
  • Pre- and Post Natal Pilates, Certified by The Thoughtful Body
  • Comprehensive Pilates Qualification (matwork/equipment/rehabilitation/children’s Pilates), accredited by Pilates Foundation UK
  • BA Arts Management

A bit about Marcella

Marcella has been involved with movement for over 20 years. Dance, artistic gymnastics and swimming have been part of her life since she was a child growing up in her home country – Italy.

She first came into contact with the Pilates Method 10 years ago when, due to first a knee injury and then lower back injury, she was forced into a long break from dancing. After a few months of Pilates she felt great improvement in her strength and also how her muscles were supporting her body in day-to-day life - and she was finally pain free. Having experienced the true benefits for herself, she believes that everybody should practice Pilates as ‘it is simply an investment for life that perfectly complements any other activity’.

Since qualifying, Marcella has worked in various settings with clients from all walks of life which has allowed her to develop an intuitive and tailored approach. She has both a love of movement but also a keen interest in rehabilitation, having had back problems as a child (mild scoliosis but wore braces for 2 years). Her aim is to empower clients with body awareness and confidence in their ability, to then carry this forward into their daily activities and outside their sessions.

Marcella offers a simple, warm, hands-on and very giving teaching style, creating an environment that is relaxing and light hearted.

She is a proud mum of one and enjoys relaxing with her family.

Cathy

Position

Pilates Teacher

Fully qualified to teach Pilates since

2018

Qualifications

  • 2-year Comprehensive Pilates course (network/equipment/children’s pilates/rehabilitation/pre-and postnatal), accredited by the Pilates Foundation UK
  • Chartered Structural Engineer

A bit about Cathy

A regular studio client for almost 6 years, Cathy initially explored Pilates as a way of addressing some of the postural effects of a demanding desk job in engineering. She discovered that she could not only deal with the gradually increasing ‘niggles’, but gain strength and control of her body and find the mobility that she needed to feel comfortable and confident that her body could support her through the various demands of life.

After a few years of personal practice, Cathy decided to put her enthusiasm for the method to good use and train as a Pilates teacher, selecting the in-depth training offered by Anne-Marie Zulkahari, accredited by the Pilates Foundation.

Cathy brings her keen eye for detail to the fundamentals of Pilates, helping clients find the support they need to move more freely and with confidence. She likes to see her classes as enabling clients to explore all the ways in which their bodies can move, and to enjoy it!

When not teaching, Cathy enjoys climbing and skiing – embracing an active, outdoor lifestyle.
